Let's face it. It's a difficult business and we're all just doing our best.

I hope the festival is a success!

Must add, as I'm sure Marc would agree, was a pity Apparition couldn't be there too..

Shame I can't make it down as the Peel is my local pretty much!

I certainly agree with the idea that any bands (overseas or not) would prefer to play to a packed small venue than a mostly empty big one. Wembley Arena to 100 people or the Barfly to the same 100 people anyone?

I'm really pleased now that we decided to go see Pythia again at the Threshold gig rather than go to Southend, as I would've already paid out for advance train tickets if we'd gone for the festival option, possibly a hotel booking too. To switch not just venues but complete locations so late in the day....well, hopefully lessons have been learnt.

Some of Triaxis were there
This was an excellent night out with Apparition, Soul Grind and Sirenia.
The only problems of the night were the constant equipment failures for every band, Apparition got away pretty lightly, but poor Soul Grind travelled 2000 miles or so to do 5 or 6 tracks and they wern`t best pleased. The female singer taking her gripe out on the crowd and Sirenia in 1 short but sweet rant, just before she left the stage she picked up a mic and said " there is only 1 band left to come, and we all know you only come to see HER" Then after a short pause she went on " the silence says everything". Which was largely seen as petchulence, but seeing as she`d only done a few songs for her trouble, I`ll forgive her. The few songs they did do were excellent, a type of growling, grunting almost black metal, but a bit more melodical than Cradle, or Dimmu.
Then Sirenia left the stage while the sampling machine was dropped on its head, but were back within 2 minutes to do a fantastic set. Some old, some new which surprised most that Ailyn covered very well, she was not just a very pretty face.

Sounds like it was worth it for the Soul Grind rant! Telling the audience that they've only come to see HER rather than them about Sirenia was a cracking commentary on the Femme Metal scene if ever there was one!!

The thing thats so stupid about it Tom, is if blokes want to see hot to trot women, they can go 10 miles down the road and watch strippers for half the price it cost to get in there. (or so i`m told).
But hey, praps they don`t have those facilities in Finland
But it was funny, the silence btw was more a case of, what the hell was that about, and yeah whatever.
As you can see from the pics, she`s a large lass, and is jealous of the attention Ailyn was getting.

And it's stuff like this that makes me doubt whether I should ever bother even thinking about following a dream I've had for years

Sadly Laura the rock/metal scene is still very much a man's world and although there are a lot of female fronted bands getting attention the singers are often judged on looks, which cheapens the impact of the music of course. In fact, without naming names, i'd suggest some pretty ordinary bands get attention if they have an attractive singer. It's not right of course and conversly i've seen some pretty ugly men described as hot apparently just because being a lead singer with a rock band is sexy.

As for your own ambitions, go for it. Because if you really believe in yourself and you have the talent nobody should stop you following a dream. You don't want to have regrets, it's better to have tried and found out how far your talent can take you!

It's very tough being a girl in the metal scene.

It's very much a man's world. Of course it brings you a certain amount of attention but it also means you're constantly having to prove yourself musically. You get a lot of 'there's no place for women in metal," but that's mostly from Ross!

That's only from neanderthal idiots, surely.

Sure, good looks can give a band/artist an attention boost but that's always been the case - it's the same for male & female artists & it applies to all music genres. Human nature innit!?!

If you`re the tough cookie you pertain to be, surely comments like that should make you fight the crap, rather than take it.
Tanja, as Leighton put it else where, was very un professional with those comments, and basiclly it`s a straight flipant comment back to a flipant comment made. There was a lot of Soul Grind fans loitering around, most of them were talking in Finish, and probably came over on the plane with the band. Tanja and Azhemin were with them most of the afternoon so was more than likely showing off to her cronies.
But what I also said was they were really quite good, and would like to see them again. Besides, she`s not unatractive, and I`m hardly Brad Pitt myself.
